I have several pairs of these shorts and regularly ride flowy and technical trails. It is hard to see from the picture, but the inside of the legs is a mesh material that breaths very well. This helps keep things cool when you might be wearing several layers of clothing (shorts, padded liner, etc.)I was surprised that these shorts run a little big in size. I'm 6'0", 185lb and have a 33-34" waist which is normally a large in cycling clothing. I even wear a large in the pearl mtb padded liner shorts. However these shorts are actually a little on the big side. Fortunately they have velcro straps in the waistband that let you adjust the fit. So while they are comfy in the waist, they are a little big in the seat, which sometimes gets caught on the tip of my mtb seat when moving on/off the saddle. The good thing about them being oversized is that in the winter, I can just slide them over a pair of tights. These shorts don't have quite the same tailored fit as my specialized enduro comp shorts, but they still do a great job and I enjoy wearing them even in 90+ deg heat and high humidity. In the end, these are some of the best shorts that I've tried. They have a good cut/fit and move with you well. They don't get too stinky even when drenched in sweat, and they were good enough that I bought a second pair. Also want to add that the leg openings are big enough to comfortably fit over my raceface ambush knee pads.
